Math, wherever you type.
Meowton is a fast, trustworthy way to write mathematical notation in the application you are already working in, and to hand it over in the best form that application can keep.
x = \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac}}{2a}
What we are building
Mathematics is written in far more places than it is typeset: lecture notes, lab reports, email, a chat window, a form on a learning platform, a slide, a message to a colleague. Each of those places accepts a different kind of notation, and most people who write mathematics carry a private collection of workarounds for each one.
We are building one composer that goes with you. Type an expression once, in the notation you already know (LaTeX, ASCII math, or plain English), watch it typeset as you go, and place it in the current application as an editable equation, as a picture with the source attached, or as text, whichever that application can actually keep.
The composer also takes a photograph of printed mathematics, a handwritten expression, or a spoken one. Each reading is a proposal until you have seen it typeset and confirmed it.
What we want to achieve
Confirmed, never guessed
Nothing enters your document that you have not seen typeset. A reading that is not good enough is refused rather than inserted.
Private by construction
Composing, previewing, converting, and history stay on your device. Recognition runs on your device too. There is no analytics and no telemetry, and the two network exceptions are written down rather than hidden.
Accessible by design
Every screen works with a keyboard and with a screen reader, and every expression has a spoken reading.
Three languages
Everything you read or hear is in English, Simplified Chinese, and French.
For departments and campuses
Meowton is being built to meet what a university asks of software it hands to every student: accessible by design, on-device by default, and documented for the people who review it. If you buy or review software for a department, an accessibility office, or a whole campus, say so on the form and we will write to you first.
